Ductless heat pump systems are becoming increasingly popular here in Tacoma, WA, and with good reason. Also called ductless split systems or mini splits, these compact heating-and-cooling units offer flexibility and efficiency beyond what traditional heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems do. At Kliemann Brothers, we are installing and maintaining more of these systems than ever.
Why Are They Different?
The most obvious difference with ductless heat pumps is they do not require ductwork—they are entirely ductless. This is the factor giving them an edge over ducted heating-and-cooling units. With only a few components to the system, you can understand why they are so flexible.
Our professionals can install these small systems almost anywhere in your home requiring heating and/or cooling, typically on a ceiling or wall. Despite their condensed size, these ductless systems are very powerful.
On top of this, they only have three main components. There is the outdoor unit—the condenser or compressor. There is the indoor unit—the air-handling unit. Then there is a small conduit connecting the two units—housing the condensate drain, suction tubing, refrigerant tubing, and power cable. A variation we often make is installing several indoor units (up to eight) that connect to the one outdoor unit, creating a zone-system setup.
When Would You Want One?
If you have a room or area in your home, like a garage, finished basement, addition, or even a room with uneven temperatures, where you want heating and/or cooling, a ductless would be an excellent option. You can also set up several systems throughout your home and treat them like zones, all controlled via remote control.
In addition to the flexibility and ductless advantages, these systems offer several benefits to you. The ductless heat pump affords a great cost savings overall with its energy efficiency, lack of ductwork (no energy leaks), and controlled heating and cooling, only heating and cooling exactly when and where you want it.
Another benefit to this system is improved indoor air quality. Again without ductwork, there’s no collection of particles, dust, and bacteria you can find in the ducts circulating throughout your home.
These ductless systems are also quick and easy to install since there is no ductwork involved in the installation. Once installed, they are quiet in operation, offering even temperature control in their rooms, all while boasting their environmental advantage of using green refrigerant.

Ductless Mini-Split Installation in Other, WA 98361
“We had Kliemann Brothers install a Mitsubishi ductless mini-split in our family cabin. With only baseboard and a propane fireplace, this was an incredible upgrade. The install technicians, as well as the electrician, showed up on time and ready to get to work. They took great care in protecting our property and cleaned up thoroughly when completed. Despite the fact that they had a 2 hr drive home ahead of them, not once did they cut a corner or not take the time to answer questions I had. Alex, Alex & Dave were top notch installers and some of the best people I've ever hired. With the addition of the Air Scrubber, to ensure the healthiest air and surfaces possible, we know we have the most comfortable, efficient and safe system on the market. THANK YOU Kliemann Bros for continuing to be the best HVAC Company in Western Washington!!!”
